Brexit

The period of applications for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement, a right of permanent residence under the withdrawal agreement, and changing the residence status has ended 30 September 2021.

As a British citizen you can apply for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement even after the closing date of the application period, 30 September 2021, if you have reasonable grounds to submit your application late.

You will find more information about Brexit and the rights of residence under the withdrawal agreement on the website of the Finnish Immigration Service.
Each applicant must fill in a separate form.

Applying from abroad
In certain situations, you can apply for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement from abroad. Submit your application at a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate) or an application centre of our external service provider.

Apply for a residence permit if you arrive in Finland after 31 December 2020
Remember: If you arrive in Finland for the first time after 31 December 2020, you cannot apply for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement. Instead, you must apply for a residence permit in the same manner as other persons from countries outside the EU.

Family members
Family members of British citizens whose family ties to the British citizen have been formed before the end of the transition period, as well as their children born and adopted after that, have the right to apply for a right of residence under the withdrawal agreement even after 30 September 2021.

If you are not sure which type of application you should choose, use the Application Finder on the Finnish Immigration Service website to find out.
